Overload Testing

We have developed a wide range of overload tests in full compliance with SOLAS regulations and MODU codes. 

These require five-yearly load tests on all lifeboats, FRCs, release mechanisms and davits.  Overload testing is also required during installation and commissioning of new and reconditioned equipment.

All overload tests are performed by ISO 9001-controlled procedures using calibrated equipment including water bags, load cells and flow meters.  Load tests include:

  • five-yearly 110% overload tests on lifeboats and davits as required by SOLAS and MODU codes
  • five-yearly 110% on-load lifeboat release and retrieval systems tests (these can be performed by the use of water bags or hydraulic jacks)
  • 220%, 150% and 110% overload tests during the installation and commissioning of new or reconditioned lifeboats, davits and winches.

Safelaunch

Safelaunch® is an offload / onload lifeboat release and retrieval system designed and manufactured by Survival Craft to eliminate the common operating problems associated with other release mechanisms.

Fatalities occur every year as a result of old and poorly-designed release mechanisms. Safelaunch® represents a major step forward in functionality and safety, and greatly reduces the potential for injuries and fatalities resulting from operational failure or incorrect use of release systems.

Safelaunch® meets the latest requirements of SOLAS, IMO and LSA codes and is approved by DNV in accordance with the EU Marine Equipment Directive (MED).

Safelaunch® can be installed in new lifeboats or retrofitted to old lifeboats as a class approved upgrade.
